Objectives:
Founded in 1878, the Louis Carton Workshops, situated in Tournai, were acquired by IDETA in 2020 and the reconversion was launched. The pilot aims to develop slow paths, along the River Scheldt, and reconnect those Workshops with the city and its citizens.
The project on the former ALC site—now the Mineral Circular Center (MC²)—contributes to a European approach to regenerating underused industrial heritage through slow tourism.
The enhancement of the site entrance, artistic interventions, and panoramic access offer a replicable model for other NWE cities seeking to combine economic activity with inclusive, cultural, and low impact tourism.
