Partner: Galway City Council
Period: January 2026 > June 2029
Objectives:
The pilot project will revitalise a heritage building along the River Corrib to provide a new tourism experience based on the industrial heritage, history and traditions of the city's waterways.
The experience will showcase the industrial evolution of Galway City through its rivers, canals, and mills. We will create a central hub to deliver experiences such as walking tours, water activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and cycle tours that will encourage visitors to extend their dwell time in the area and create other supplementary experiences.
The central hub will deliver a tourist attraction that will combine augmented reality, historical interpretation, and local storytelling, historical reconstructions (working mills) that will tell the forgotten stories of the waterways and bring them back into life.
